Torre de Belém

The Belém Tower is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of Lisbon’s most outstanding monuments, and a symbol of a seafaring nation that set out to discover the world. To protect the city of Lisbon, King D. João II conceived a pioneering maritime defence project, which was concluded in 1514 with the construction of the Tower of Belém, by architect Francisco de Arruda.
