Alfama
The oldest and most traditional neighbourhood in Lisbon, with cobbled lanes and alleys and steep, gruelling inclines, should be discovered little by little, stopping frequently to savour the view, atmosphere and authentic spirit of the oldest side of the capital. Take a deep breath and start to climb the hill that will reveal one of the best views of the city.
Mouraria
A traditional Lisbon quarter identified by some scholars as the possible cradle of fado; the place where Severa, a mythical figure in the world of fado, lived and died.
Graça
Discover one of the best views of Lisbon. Sitting at the top of one of the city’s famous hills, the view lets you write the history of Lisbon through the naked eye.
Baixa
This is where you’ll find the city’s most popular and best-known areas. The historic centre – the Baixa Pombalina, with its traditional shops and museums.
Chiado
Chiado, with their eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional stores – are some of the city’s main places of interest.
Bairro Alto
In some of Lisbon’s oldest and most traditional neighbourhoods, you’ll find a nightlife and festive spirit that you’ll find hard to believe in the centre of the city. The streets fill with people of all ages who come to catch up, have a drink, watch the people passing by and discover all the many new things there are to be found.
Belém
The monuments of Lisbon, which personify the age of the Discoveries and the country’s great maritime feats, can be found here. But contemporary, informed and cultured Lisbon provides it with company in this select area. So when you arrive in the city, don’t lose a minute in trying to find the most iconic architecture in the city.
Príncipe Real
Príncipe Real is filled with trendy restaurants, grand mansions, tiny antique shops, Moorish kiosks, and miniature gardens. This neighborhood is located between one of the best viewing platforms in the city, the Miradouro São Pedro de Alcântara, and the charming neighborhood of São Bento.
Cais do Sodré
Like Bairro Alto, Cais do Sodré is a cool neighbourhood to go to for a beer and catch up with friends. The Mercado da Ribeira is one of the city’s main food courts that offers everything from traditional meals to trendy treats and bakeries. It is also the home of the colourful Pink Street, full of bars, restaurants and artistic personality.
