Museu Medeiros e Almeida

Discover this house museum off the main tourism routes in Lisbon and enjoy the impressive collection assembled by Medeiros e Almeida throughout his life.

This unique museum in Lisbon contains a remarkable art collection assembled over many years.

António de Medeiros e Almeida was a businessman who found in art a passion which he would enjoy throughout his life.

He bought the house where his unique collection was stored, which was built in 1896 and once belonged to the Vatican, in 1943.

The collection was begun for the personal and social decoration of the house, but it grew exponentially with the explosion of unique artworks that came onto the market in the post-war period.

Over 2,000 works are displayed, from Chinese terracotta to porcelain, Portuguese and French furniture, Dutch and Flemish paintings, watches and jewellery.

With no heir, he created a foundation to maintain and preserve the house and collection.
