Light Everyhere II: the first Tejo Power Station

Light everywhere II is dedicated to the first Tejo Power Station and covers the time span from 1908–2024. The cycle Light everywhere takes as its title a quote from promotional material published between the 1920s and 1950s.

Light everywhere II is dedicated to the first Tejo Power Station, built on the embankment in fron of Rua da Praia da Junqueira by Companhias Reunidas Gás e Electricidade (CRGE) to meet the growing demand for electricity in the city of Lisbon.

The exhibition covers the time span from 1908 to 2024.

A memory populated by the workers and technicians of the time, here posing for period photographs that provide a journey through time that is reinforced by the physical presence of some of the machines and instruments that appear in the images.

Here, on a scale close to the real thing, the place where the power station's control, supervision and distribution switchboard were installed is also recreated.

The cycle Light everywhere takes as its title a quote from promotional material published between the 1920s and 1950s by one of the companies that historically preceded EDP.

The EDP Foundation Documentation Centre is the faithful custodian of this vast legacy (graphic models, flyers, printed leaflets, and posters, among other media) of both advertising and educational nature.

Displaying it to the museum’s public means showing an important moment in Portuguese society: the period when domestic electrification became widespread in towns and cities, and companies needed to attract an increasing number of consumers by extolling the advantages of the new source of energy and light while also teaching them how to use and consume it rationally.

The second part of this cycle is dedicated to the Junqueira Power Station.
