The Language of Shadows: Visual Correspondence

In the universe of shadows and reflections, different worlds overlap. There are figures and shapes previously segregated by geographical distance or lack of imagination. There are gardens within lakes, skies within oceans, figures intersected by the horizon of a distant landscape, the shadow of a wave falling over a planet.

A correspondence often begins spontaneously. The visual correspondence between Catarina and Fernando began in this way, so it's not possible to pinpoint its exact beginning.

However, the set of images exchanged took shape and volume over the space of two years and during the global pandemic. This period of isolation and separation was overcome by sharing common affinities and professional and artistic interests, and also with this visual game created and to which they both devoted themselves with increasing enthusiasm.

Catarina and Fernando, daughter and father, live on opposite shores of the Atlantic: Catarina in Boston and Fernando in Lisbon. The collection of images presented brings together shadows of their nods, forming a visual essay that proposes a language of shadows.
