Jardim Botânico da Faculdade de Ciências de Lisboa

Learn more about the species in the Lisbon botanical and scientific garden. This is the perfect place for a few hours of wandering amid the tranquillity and variety of plants.

Between the neighbourhoods of Rato and Princípe Real and amid museums and unique boutiques, you’ll find one of the best scientific gardens in Europe.

It is the perfect place for a break while exploring the city on foot. Inviting, tranquil and complete, the Botanical Garden of the Lisbon Faculty of Sciences was created for the use of the polytechnic in 1837.

Thanks to Edmund Goeze and Jules Daveau, the two gardeners most responsible for its construction, it brought together a huge variety of plants from the furthest reaches of the world. Hothouses, irrigation systems and a lovely arboretum were all designed.

It has notable rare species and a unique butterfly house, ideal for adding romance to your cosmopolitan stroll around Princípe Real.
