Samouco Salt Pans

Point of Interest

Covering an area of 360 hectares, the Samouco Salt Pan Complex is a safe haven and a feeding and nesting ground for thousands of birds. The salt produced here is certified and destined for different uses, including gastronomy, swimming pools, invasive vegetation control and irrigation for salicornia production.

Sítio das Marinhas - Moita Environmental Interpretation Centre

Viewing Point

Sítio das Marinhas is an Environmental Interpretation Centre, created by the local council within a recovered salt mine. Its indoor exhibition and external circuit focus on the importance of salt pans in local history and tradition, and the Tagus Estuary’s natural heritage.

Ponte Marechal Carmona

The Marechal Carmona Bridge, inaugurated on the 30th of December 1951, near the Portuguese town of Vila Franca de Xira, was the first bridge to connect the two banks of the River Tagus.

Forte de São Lourenço / Farol do Bugio

The Fort of São Lourenco do Bugio, also known as Fort of São Lourenço da Cabeça Seca, is located in the middle of the Tagus’ river mouth, between Cova do Vapor, in Trafaria, and the town and county of Oeiras. The Bugio Lighthouse is an integral part of its structure.

Ponte 25 de Abril / Pilar 7

Point of Interest

Over 2 km long, this impressive Golden Gate-style hanging bridge connects Lisbon to Almada. The bridge can be visited through Pilar 7, located on Avenida da Índia, in Alcântara. An interactive tour which allows all visitors to discover the 25 de Abril suspension bridge - considered to be one of the most beautiful bridges in the world - on a journey between the outer areas of the bridge’s central pillar, the sensory experiences inside and the history of its construction. The final ascent is made by elevator and leads to a panoramic viewpoint with an unprecedented view of Lisbon and the River Tagus.
