Quinta da Bacalhoa
Point of InterestThe Bacalhôa Wine Estate and Palace sit amongst a unique landscape with a historical setting that dates back to the beginning of the 14th century. The architecture and decoration of the Palace's gardens reveal influences from the Portuguese discoveries. Over time, the Estate has been embellished with 15th and 16th century Portuguese tiles evoking Moorish patterns and designs. Both on the inside and out, one can admire unique pieces from Comendador Berardo's private art collection, and walk through the gardens and vineyards to the 'casa de fresco', where we can find the first Portuguese tile ever dated.
At the Bacalhôa Museum, visitors may enjoy the Tasting Room while admiring the tranquil scenery of the Japanese Garden. The Exhibition Hall takes us on a journey through works of art divided into three thematic groups: African Art, Portuguese Tiles and Art Deco.
The Bacalhôa Palace, Museum and Wine Estate are located in Vila Fresca de Azeitão.
