This Gothic, Renaissance and Mannerist church was built in the second half of the 16th Century.
This town centre church was built in the second half of the 16th Century. The architecture is a blend of Gothic, Renaissance and Mannerist. The chequered tiles and decoratively painted arches and domes of the interior are largely Mannerist. The altar carvings are Portuguese-style baroque and the paintings in the chancel are probably 17th Century. The tile-lined chancel has a carved Baroque reredos with figures of mermaids and sculptures of the evangelists. In a small outbuilding to the right of the entrance, there is a 1.7 m Gothic pediment carved with the Holy Trinity. This piece belonged to the Chapel of the Holy Spirit.
