The museum’s collection covers decades of the artistic and cultural output and social intervention of one of 20th Century Portugal’s most decisive cultural movements.
The main objective of this thematic museum is to research and communicate the neorealist movement, as a way of preserving and dignifying decades of artistic and cultural output and social intervention by one of 20th Century Portugal’s most decisive cultural movements. The museum, which initially grew out of the archives and bibliographic resources of the neorealist movement, is organised into two main centres. The first of these is the Documentation Centre, which includes the library, the collection of works by significant neorealists and a fine art collection. The second centre comprises an exhibition space.
