Invisible Empire
This exhibition features the works of the Siamese-Portuguese Protuket, Francis Chit (1830-1891) and of the Macanese Joaquim António (1862-1912).
Two photographers who rose to prominence in Siam during the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
Both photographed the royal family during the reigns of Rama Chakri IV and Rama Chakri V, as well as life at court and the rural and urban landscapes of the Asian kingdom.
The photographs on display include the second coronation of King Chulalongkorn in 1873 and images of “protected Chinese” captured in front of the Portuguese Consulate in Bangkok on the birthday of the king of Portugal, Carlos 1, in 1899.
Until 24th November, Tuesday to Sunday, from 10am to 6pm, Fridays, until 10pm.
